Zero-waste event toolkit and 20-minute training

I just uploaded our zero-waste event toolkit (printable station signs, a 3-bin layout map, and a quick contamination checklist) plus a 20-minute micro-training you can run on-site with new volunteers. If you pilot it at this Saturday’s creek cleanup at 9:00 a.m. or at a school game this month, tell me where the sorting cues succeed or fail so I can tighten the script and signage before Earth Month.

At our last school game, we pushed the landfill bin two feet behind the 3-bin row so it wasn’t the default reach, and contamination dropped noticeably. Your “sorting cues” will pop even more if the flow passes compost and recycling first; if it’s a night event, the effect fades when the signs aren’t well lit.

Split your 20-minute micro-training into a 12‑min pre-huddle and a 5‑min ‘latecomer lap’ at 9:05, and have volunteers demo the three most confusing items. Taping the printable station signs at eye level and opening with a quick ‘compost first’ cue cut questions in half; at food-heavy spots, we swap the 3-bin order to compost–recycle–landfill. @jclarkson42 your spacing note pairs well with a tiny parking bucket for questionable items so folks don’t default to landfill.
