What skills have surprised you as a volunteer

I’ve been amazed at how many unexpected skills I’ve developed through volunteering. For instance, I never considered myself a public speaker until I led workshops for new recruits at our local food bank. It’s incredible to see how stepping outside your comfort zone can open up a world of opportunity. What about you? Any surprising skills you’ve picked up?

It’s so true — stepping outside your comfort zone really does broaden your skills… I found that coordinating events for a local charity pushed me to improve my organization and time management skills, which I never thought I’d need. Have you found any tools or strategies that help with the public speaking part?

I totally get that! When I helped with fundraising, I unexpectedly honed my negotiation skills while interacting with local businesses. It’s wild how volunteering can lead to skills you didn’t know you had — what’s next on your list to tackle?

I never thought I’d improve my problem-solving skills until I started brainstorming solutions during community meetings. It’s amazing how collaboration can lead to quick thinking! Have you found a particular situation where communication really helped you? @vthornton88.
