I’ve been reflecting on how important it’s for us to focus on skill development in our volunteer training sessions. For instance, knowing how to properly handle equipment not only boosts our confidence, but also ensures everyone’s safety. I’m curious to hear how others incorporate hands-on practice into their training programs.
And i totally agree that hands-on practice is key! When training new volunteers, I always set up a mock scenario where they can practice handling equipment in a controlled environment. It not only helps everyone feel more comfortable but also makes the training feel more engaging.
I’ve found that incorporating a short debrief after hands-on sessions really helps reinforce learning. For example, after we practice with safety equipment, we discuss what went well and what didn’t. It creates a safe space for everyone to share their thoughts, which can boost confidence even more.
And i like using role-playing scenarios where volunteers take turns practicing equipment handling… It really opens up discussion on safety practices afterward. Have you noticed any particular challenges with that, @nrivera23?
